All-Porcelain Crowns & Composite Fillings ("White Fillings")
Thanks to advances in dental materials and ceramics, crowns and fillings no longer have to look dark and unnatural. All-porcelain crowns and tooth-colored fillings can be matched to the natural color of your teeth and carefully contoured to look extremely realistic.
Crowns and bridges used to be all metal (gold). Then they used to be fused-porcelain on top of a metal sub-structure. More recently, porcelain is used for both the sub-structure as well as for the crown portion of a restoration.
(at right: all-ceramic connected "bridge")
For fillings, the composite resin materials used for tooth-colored fillings are very strong and long-lasting, making them an ideal option for virtually undetectable tooth repair. Also, unlike amalgum, the nature of the resin materials prevent them from expanding and breaking down over time due to expansion. No longer will cavities form behind flattened or expanded amalgum fillings.
If a patient already has metal-based crowns or amalgum fillings, they may not need to be replaced. However, some patient prefer a metal-free smile, particularly when they talk or laugh. These patients may choose to have particularly amalgum fillings replaced. Please consult Dr. Park to see whether the amalgum fillings you may have are in good condition, and to discuss your objectives for your smile and teeth.
